My older sister, Josephine, had seen the advert for the Horner Exhibition (at the Village Hall July 2023) in The Yoxmere Fisherman. She was reminded that when she was around seven years old, in 1945, our Gran said one day to her and her younger brother Martin “come on, we will walk to Yoxford to buy an ice cream or sweets from HORNERS shop” and ‘then of course we had to walk all the way home again but what a treat so we were happy to go’. Gran was Isabel Marjoram. Their Howard grandfather and father farmed Hawthorn Farm in Middleton. There were 22 children, father being the youngest boy. This was all way before my time.
